We know that changing the date of your wedding is a tough decision to take, but the right one under these circumstances. Changing the date of your wedding should be the only thing you do need to cancel, leaving everything else paused and arranged just as it would have been wherever possible. Your suppliers will want you to go ahead as planned, so changing the date will also be the best outcome for them. If suppliers can’t be changed, speak to your wedding insurance company to see if they are accepting claims during the Covid-19 outbreak.

First thing you will want to do or think about is how to inform guests of the changes you are making. Most of them will assume that you will be cancelling or postponing, however it is a good idea to send them all an email or message to inform them of your decision, specifically noting that you will be in touch with a new wedding date as soon as you can. If you are using a wedding website this will be an easy solution for letting all your guests know the latest info. You should also suggest that your guests get in touch with hotels and travel companies if they have used them to get refunds or to make a cancellation.
Make a list of all the suppliers that you will need to get in touch with to postpone your plans. If you have managed to secure a new wedding date, check that they have availability, then see if there are things that you will need to change in order to coincide with the new date, such as seasonal flowers and food. If some of your suppliers aren’t available, use this as a positive opportunity to look for alternatives.

Count your blessings that you are both safe and healthy, making use of this extra time to do some additional wedding planning. Start the search for new suppliers if you need to or make changes to your original plans depending on the time of year of your new wedding date. If you wanted to do some DIY details but found you didn’t have time to, now you can, so enjoy adding some of your own personal, handmade touches to your special day.
It is very easy to feel down when you have spent so long planning your dream wedding day but remember that you are still getting married to the person you love, and after all, that is the thing you get to hold on to. Keeping your friends and family safe is important, and they will still love and support you whenever your wedding is. Why not celebrate your original wedding date to mark it as a significant day, honouring it as a couple, or over a group online video call with your close family and friends – any excuse to celebrate aye!
